File your VAT return in five minutes with the filing guide
VatMainder lays out the figures for your VAT return in the order your tax portal asks for them, with the portal's own field names. Tap to copy, paste, submit.
Filing a VAT return isn’t hard once you know which number goes in which box. The hard part is working those numbers out from a month of receipts, and remembering where they go. VatMainder’s filing guide does both. It’s free.
Four steps, next to your tax portal
When a period has ended, its statement in VatMainder has a How to file button. The guide that opens says “Takes about 5 minutes. Keep this screen open next to OmaVero.” (or your country’s portal), and has four steps:
- Log in to OmaVero. Use your bank ID at vero.fi/omavero.
- Open “VAT” → “File a return” and pick the period, for example August 2026.
- Type in these numbers. Tap a value to copy it, then paste it into the matching field.
- Submit & pay. The amount to pay and the due date, or the refund Vero pays to your bank account.
A button at the bottom opens the portal in your browser.
The portal’s own field names
The figures carry the names of the fields in your portal, so you don’t have to translate anything. For a Finnish return that means:
- Tax on domestic sales 25.5%, and a line for each other rate you used
- Deductible tax for the period
- Turnover taxable at 0%, exports outside the EU included
- Sales and purchases of goods and services with other EU countries
- Tax payable or Tax refundable
The other built-in countries get their own: Sweden’s ruta numbers in whole kronor, Germany’s Kennzahlen for ELSTER (Kz 81, Kz 86, Kz 66, Kz 83), and the UK’s nine boxes for your MTD software. A month with no sales and no purchases in Finland gets a single instruction instead: tick “No activities during the tax period”.
The figures are estimates from what you recorded, and the guide says so: check each one before you submit.
Mark it filed
Back in VatMainder, Mark as filed asks for the date, whether you paid in full or will pay later, and optionally Vero’s reference number. Choose Will pay later (remind me) and you get a reminder 2 days before the payment is due and on the day.
Then the period’s done: you see what’s still unfiled, the next deadline, and how many of this year’s returns are filed. When you’ve paid, one tap marks the return Filed & paid.
If something changes later
If you add or edit a receipt in a period you’ve already filed, the statement says so: Changed since you filed. It tells you to file a correction in the portal, so your records and Vero’s match.
Before you file
The guide works from the VAT statement, which lists your sales by rate, purchases by category, trade with other EU countries and, if you do several kinds of work, sales by each. Quarterly and yearly statements add a month-by-month chart. A quarterly filer gets a tip on how much to set aside each month, so the bill isn’t a shock.
See the due dates guide for when each return is due.
